Sohra, Feb 20,  2020: With a view to strengthen emergency preparedness and response procedures in hospitals in times of disasters that would occur in future, the office of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), East Khasi Hills District, Shillong in collaboration with office of the Sub-Divisional Officer (C), Sohra Civil Sub-Division, Directorate of Civil Defence and Home Guards and Sohra CHC conducted a one-day mock drill at the premises of Sohra CHC on Wednesday by the simulation of an earthquake.

This mock drill aimed at meeting the safety plans of the hospital in case of any disaster. The mock drill saw the participation of staff of CHC Sohra, Office of the SDO (C), Sohra, Police department, Fire Service department, MPRO, BDO Shella- Bholaganj and BDO Khadar Shnong-Laitkroh C & RD Blocks, Government departments of PHE, PWD, Social Welfare, Food & Civil Supplies, Information & Public Relations, Power, Sohra College and other departments etc. It involved transportation, treatment of casualties, shifting of casualties and requirements needed for disaster response. Conducting of such simulations and drills is an effective way to evaluate and test disaster preparedness plans of a particular institution or area.
