MPCC receives names of candidates from two DCCs

Shillong, Nov 20: The ruling Congress has received names of candidates recommended by the District Congress committees (DCCs) from two out of 11 districts.

The two DCCs – Ri Bhoi District Congress Committee and North Garo Hills District Congress Committee.- have submitted the names of candidates to the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) for the upcoming 2018 state Assembly poll.

This was informed by MPCC working president, James Lyngdoh.

Ri Bhoi district has five constituencies and North Garo Hills comprised of four constituencies.

Lyngdoh said that all the DCCs were expected to complete the process and submit the names of candidates within the stipulated time.

The last date for the DCCs to submit the list of recommended names of candidates to the MPCC is November 22.

East Khasi Hills district however would submit names of candidates recommended by the Shillong City Congress Committee and those recommended by East Khasi Hills DCC.

As many as 106 applicants have collected the application forms vying for Congress ticket to contest the upcoming Assembly poll for 60 Assembly constituencies.

Screening of names of the candidates recommended by the respective DCCs to the MPCC will be held on November 30, after which, the list would be forwarded to the Central Election Committee of the All India Congress Committee (AICC).

The Congress has set a target to announce its candidates from all 60 constituencies at one go in December.
