Shillong, Aug 2: The North Eastern Hill University Students’ Union (NEHUSU) has called off its indefinite strike following the declaration of the 6th semester results by NEHU on Thursday evening.
“We have decided to call off our strike after the results were finally declared by the University,†adviser of the Union Rangdajied Marweiñ said on Friday while extending his gratefulness to the controller of examination.
Leaders of the NEHUSU had staged an indefinite sit-in-protest inside the building of the examination block against the delay in declaring the 6th semester results which has affected the undergraduate students of various colleges especially those who want to pursue higher studies and seek admission in universities across the country.
Marweiñ informed that the union members had also witnessed the colleges coming to submit the answer scripts at around 4.30 pm on Thursday.
“This shows that the teachers of these colleges, which I would not like to mention their names, do not at all care about the career of students,†he said.
He said that it was the failure of the vice chancellor because if he was active, these colleges would not have the audacity to delay in submitting the answer scripts.
He also informed that the Union has decided to further discuss on the need to change the academic calendar of NEHU to ensure such incident should not happen in future.
“We have also demanded from the NEHU authority to pass a resolution that the results should be declared in the first week of July every year,†Marweiñ said.
The NEHUSU also urged the Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui to look into this matter very seriously because if left unattended, this would really affect the welfare and interest of the student’s fraternity in the state.
