Shillong Dec 19: The opposition Congress on Thursday moved a ‘no confidence motion’ in Assembly against the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government but the motion was not accepted.

The opposition tabled the no confidence motion during the special session of the Assembly which was convened to pass the resolution for requesting the Central government to implement the Inner Line Permit (ILP) in the state.

In the no confidence motion, the Congress accused the MDA government of having failed on all fronts, particularly its failure to protect the interest of the people of the state, financial mismanagement, stopping of developmental programmes and rampant corruption.

If the motion has to be admitted, Assembly Speaker, Metbah Lyngdoh said in his ruling that motion will be taken up on such day not being more than 10 days, and not less than 24 hours from the time at which leave of the House was asked.

“Therefore, taking the rules into consideration, I will not admit this no confidence motion,” the Speaker said while rejecting the no confidence motion.
