Shillong, June 9: East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner (Supply) on Saturday said that there was no shortage of essential commodities and warned retailers and shop keepers who hiked the prices of essential items in view of the prevailing law and order situation in the Shillong city.
In a statement issued here on Saturday, the DC informed that the prevailing law and order situation in Shillong that has resulted to the promulgation of curfew, many shop keepers and retailers took advantage of the situation by escalating prices of essential commodities.
After assessing the stock position of essential commodities with traders and stockiest, the DC found that there is no shortage of essential items.
“Therefore there is no reason for retailers and shop keepers to hike the prices of essential items,†the DC said, while warning that strict action will be taken against retailers, shop keepers found selling essential items at unreasonable and exorbitant price.
