Polls to District Councils: Leader of Opposition predicts fractured verdict

Hek never requested me to join BJP: Mukul Sangma

Shillong, Feb 28: Leader of Opposition and Congress leader, Mukul Sangma on Thursday predicted fractured verdict in the elections to the two autonomous district councils, KHADC nad JHADC.

The elections were conducted on Wednesday and the results will be declared on Saturday.

“From my inputs, we expect a hung verdict. Let us see and wait for the mandate (of the people),” Sangma told reporters here on Thursday.

Stating that Congress’ performance will be good, Sangma said, “We expect to touch the half way mark, and we keep our fingers cross.”

“The people have exercised their right to franchise and used their wisdom in electing their respective representatives. We will go by the mandate and verdict of the people, and will definitely honor their verdict,” he said.

The Congress fielded candidates in all constituencies of the two Councils. The KHADC and JHADC have 29 seats each.
