Shillong, Apr 19: The Shillong Bar Association has expressed its resentment over the appointment of Advocate General from outside the state.

In a statement issued here on Thursday, SBA secretary Kishore Ch Gautam said that the appointment of the Advocate General of Meghalaya from outside the State was made even after the Bar Association had submitted a memorandum to the Home Minister requesting him not to overlook the advocates while making the appointment.

The Bar Association has resolved that the Government should ensure that the post of Additional Advocate General would be filled up by the advocates from within the state and not outside.

“Incase, the Government appoints Additional Advocate General from outside the state, the Bar would have no other option but to stage protest,” Gautam said.

The State Government has appointed Amit Kumar, a senior advocate in the Supreme Court as the new Advocate General of the state.
