Shillong, July 4: The Ri Bhoi District Magistrate has promulgated an order under Section 144 CrPC, prohibiting any person, organization and other from indulging in or resorting to the act of earth cutting within Ri Bhoi district.

This order was issued after receiving reports that large scale, indiscriminate earth cutting are taking place within Ri Bhoi district especially in Killing area which may resulted in landslides, flash floods and erosion of soil and in turn led to the destruction of private properties, house, electricity poles, water pipe lines, drainage system lying in the upper and low areas.

Furthermore, the order said that using of heavy duty machines in earth cutting may also resulted in intense noise pollution and air pollution.

The order will come into force with immediate effect until further order.
