Shillong Nov 25: The Seng Samla Mawlai Nongpdeng (SSMN) on Monday conducted a programme to enlighten construction labourers about the benefits they should avail from the government.
The programme was held at the Community Hall of Mawlai Nongpdeng.
The labourers can avail various benefits from the scheme known as the Meghalaya Building Construction Workers & Welfare Fund through the Labour Department.
Headman of Mawlai Nongpdeng, P. Khongsit, lauded the SSMN and the Labour department for conducting the programme to make the labourer aware about the benefits under the scheme.
SSMN General Secretary, Samuel Biam the main person who took the initiative to organise the programme, urged all construction labourers to take the opportunity to avail this scheme which will give them various benefits.
Officers from the office of Labour Department, East Khasi Hills district including the Inspector explained in detail about the benefits where construction labourers would get by registering themselves with the department.
Hundreds of labourers participated in the programme. The SSMN said that the programme was appreciated by the labourers as they got to know about the benefits under this scheme that the government has implemented for the benefit and welfare of labourers in the state.
It was informed that around 2000 labourers have registered in Mylliem Block to avail benefits under the scheme, and about 30,000 labourers have registered in the state as a whole.
