Shillong Dec 10: Imposition of Administrator’s Rule in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council has been recommended by the State Cabinet on Tuesday.

Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma told reporters that the decision was based on the fact that there has been instability in the district council.

The fact that just few days back, there were certain numbers that were on one side and within a week or ten days time, there was a change. In a scenario like this, we have been briefed and taken all issues into account, a decision was taken to forward it to the governor for his necessary approval,” the chief minister said.

He said that there was uncertainty and instability that an administrator’s rule should be invoked in the KHADC.

This is the second time that administrator’s rule was recommended, with the first recommended getting rejected by the governor, Tathagata Roy.

“Because there is a very fluid situation, which is not good for the KHADC and the entire governance, the most appropriate the government should do or governor should do, is to have an administrator’s rule,” he said.

The KHADC has Latiplang Kharkongor as the CEM but the state government has not notified his election to the post. The Governor is also yet to approve the list of Executive Members proposed by Kharkongor.

Kharkongor was elected after the United Democratic Alliance (UDA)-led Executive Committee collapsed on November 20.

On petition filed before the high court, he said that the court has given its stand where the proceedings did not stop the Governor from taking his decision.

Meanwhile the Chief Minister refused to comment on the demand to recall Governor, Tathagata Roy and on the governor’s statement on the CAB.

There has been a demand to remove the governor for taking side in connection with the CAB.
