Urban Affairs requests GAD to shift Shillong Municipal Board from Bivar Road to Basin office

Shillong, Apr 26: The Urban Affairs department has identified a location for shifting the office of the Shillong Municipal Board (SMB) which is temporarily occupying the board’s staff quarter at Bivar Road.

Informing this here on Friday, Urban Affairs minister, Hamletson Dohling said he had inspected a site behind the official residence of the Chief Secretary, where the office of the Meghalaya Basin Development Authority is presently functioning.

 

“The building is under the General Administration Department (GAD). As the Basin’s office is going to be shifted very soon to Nongrim Hills, we have requested the GAD to allow the SMB to shift to the building,” he said.

It may be mentioned here the high level committee constituted by the government to find out a feasible solution for relocation of the Sweeper’s Colony from Them ïew Mawlong had entrusted the task to the urban affairs department to shift the SMB office.

The minister said once the request is granted by the GAD, the SMB office will be immediately shifted from Bivar Road.

“Accordingly, we will repair the quarters if required and allot the same to the 128 employees of the SMB, who are presently residing at Sweeper’s Colony, at the earliest,” Dohling said.
