Shillong, Sep 30: Congress MLA from Rangsakonsa, Zenith M. Sangma on Thursday donated an Advanced Life Support (ALS) ambulance to the people of his constituency.
Sangma’s contribution comes on the backdrop of patients from Garo Hills lacking facilities for instant and proper treatment due to the lack of ALS.
Requesting the public to utlise a modern ambulance donated by him, Rangsakona Legislator said, “The modern ambulance vehicles would be useful in providing better medical services during medical emergencies.”
This Advanced life support Ambulance, costing Rs 26 lakh was dedicated to the people with an objective of supporting the fight against deadly virus in the backdrop of Covid-19 pandemic.
According to Sangma, healthcare in the backdrop of Covid 19 pandemic has become a crucial sector and lack of such high end ambulances is a major setback for the state.
He also said that there is no Advanced Life Support (ALS) Ambulance in Garo Hills region.
At present in Meghalaya there are three ALS ambulances of which one is at the stepdown Covid hospital at Umsawli, one in Shella, one in Laitkynsew. However, NEIGRIHMS hospital too has one ALS.
The ALS Ambulance is fully equipped to handle patients needing life support. ACLS Ambulance is well equipped with tools and equipment similar to a hospital emergency department or critical care unit.
ACLS ambulances carry critical care equipment including an ECG monitor, defibrillator, intravenous and blood draw tools.
