SHILLONG, January 7, 2026: The Dorbar Shnong Golflink has announced stringent action against illegal dumping of garbage and construction debris along the Golflink–Polo stretch, warning that violators will be fined up to ₹1 lakh.
The warning comes days after the Synjuk ki Rangbah Shnong Pynthorumkhrah inspected the area and found the situation had worsened due to indiscriminate dumping of earth, construction waste, and garbage. The problem, according to shnong authorities, has been aggravated by irresponsible behaviour of certain members of the public.
Rangbah Shnong of Golflink, Bah Michael Hek, who is also the Chairman of the Synjuk ki Nongsynshar Shnong Pynthorumkhrah, expressed strong displeasure over the issue, stating that the Golflink–Pynthorumkhrah area has effectively turned into a “dumping ground.”
Speaking to the media during a Dorbar Shnong meeting at Golflink, Bah Hek said that dumping of earth and debris from construction activities without the consent of the Dorbar Shnong has created serious inconvenience and safety hazards for pedestrians, motorists, and residents.
He clarified that such activities were carried out without the knowledge or approval of the Dorbar Shnong and stressed that no violation of shnong rules would be tolerated. “Anyone found involved in illegal dumping will be fined up to ₹1 lakh,” he warned.
Bah Hek further emphasized that Golflink is a prominent locality of Shillong, and unchecked dumping not only causes traffic congestion but also damages the image and dignity of the area. He urged contractors, private individuals, and concerned agencies to immediately stop such practices and strictly follow cleanliness and waste management norms.
Appealing to the district administration, the Rangbah Shnong called for immediate intervention and close monitoring to prevent further illegal dumping. He added that the Dorbar Shnong Golflink would lodge formal complaints with the concerned authorities if the issue is not resolved promptly, as it poses a threat to public safety, environmental protection, and community harmony.
