Shillong, Dec 26: Eleven persons were injured in road accidents that took place across Meghalaya on Christmas Day, and some of the accidents were caused by drunken driving.

A 17-year old Eddison Warbah who was in an inebriated condition, sustained injuries after the bike he was riding skidded off the road at Mawlai Syllaikariah around 1:13 am. He was shifted to Shillong Civil Hospital by 108 Ambulance after first aid and wound care was done.

Similarly, in East Jaiñtia Hills district, two persons, Silias Rymbai (28 years) and Dilip Langdon (27 years) received minor injuries after the Maruti car they were travelling in, went and hit a truck and an Alto car. They were in inebriated state and the driver lost control of the car. Later they were both shifted by the 108 Ambulance to Khliehriat CHC.

In another accident, Tapos Saha (30 years) who was also in an inebriated state sustained injuries after the scooty he was driving hit an electric pole at Tura. After first aid and wound care, he was shifted in an 108 Ambulance to Tura Civil Hospital.

Jiedlang Khongsit (35 years) and Rapai Gunin (45yrs) who were in an inebriated condition, sustained injuries after an Auto (Pick up) overturned in a turning point due to loss control of the vehicle. The victims were shifted to NEIGRIHMS by 108 ambulance.

Meanwhile one Anushree Paul (30 years) sustained injuries as the person who drove the vehicle (EON) she was travelling in, felt dizzy and went and hit the safety railing at Byrnihat around 6:47am. After first aid and wound care was done on the spot, the victim was shifted to GNRC (Guwahati Neurological Research Center) by the 108 Ambulance.

Moreover, a learner driver of a Maruti car went and hit a group of people who were on a Christmas Carol on the road side at Raja Apal in Garo Hills. In this accident, four persons were injured – Menalis Momin (40yrs), Chima Marak (12yrs), Tulika Sangma (12 yrs) and Tamat Sangma (6 yrs). The injured persons were immediately taken to Bajengdoba PHC by 108 ambulance.
