Shillong, August 18, 2025: The 1st MLP Battalion Secondary School, Mawiong Umjapung, marked its Golden Jubilee with a grand celebration today, attended by dignitaries, alumni, teachers, and students. Meghalaya Health Minister, Dr. M. Ampareen Lyngdoh, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, while Director General of Police (DGP) Smt. I. Nongrang was present as the Guest of Honour.
The programme began with a prayer dance, followed by vibrant cultural performances by students and a special musical presentation by the Police Band, setting the tone for the day’s festivities.
In her address, Dr. Lyngdoh paid tribute to the founding members of the institution for their vision in establishing the school within the police campus. She lauded its growth over the decades, noting how it has matched the performance of some of the State’s leading schools. “I am heartened to see how this institution has evolved and now stands shoulder-to-shoulder with more affluent schools in terms of performance,” she said, while urging legislators to invest in similar educational facilities in their constituencies.
DGP Smt. Nongrang, in her remarks, applauded the school’s progress and outstanding performance in SSLC examinations. She commended the authorities for honouring achievers among students and alumni, adding, “This institution has overcome many challenges, and walking together for 50 years is a truly commendable achievement.”
The celebration also witnessed the inauguration of a newly established Computer Lab, the release of the Golden Jubilee Souvenir, and the felicitation of dedicated teachers and distinguished alumni. Marking the occasion, Dr. Lyngdoh announced a personal contribution of ₹1 lakh towards the construction of a new library for the school.
From its modest beginnings in Bishnupur five decades ago to its present stature, the 1st MLP Battalion Secondary School has become a symbol of dedication, resilience, and community growth. The Golden Jubilee not only honoured its rich legacy but also charted a hopeful path for the future.
