Shillong, Aug 20: The All Meghalaya Karate-Do Association (AMKA) has brought laurels to the state with an impressive medal tally at the 19th All India Independence Cup Karate Championship held in New Delhi from August 8 to 10.
The Meghalaya contingent bagged a total of 41 medals — 10 gold, 16 silver, and 15 bronze — with 35 karatekas finishing on the podium. The 57-member team was led by Donboklang Lyngdoh, Greater EM Kharpuri, and Pynhunlang Kharbuli.
Among the medallists, six athletes returned with double honours:

Dominica Phidahun Kharbani (1 silver, 1 bronze)
Esaranaki Kharjana (1 gold, 1 silver)
Ferrando Wanniang (1 gold, 1 bronze)
Mebapynhun Marngar (1 silver, 1 bronze)
Nathaniel Levin Suting (1 gold, 1 silver)
Xenia Rose Nongsiej (2 silver)
The state’s 10 gold medal winners were Audrella Carisa Marbaniang, Aventinus George Mylliem, Eric Banteinam Ryngnga, Esaranaki Kharjana, Fadrik Wanniang, Ferrando Wanniang, Garret Ivan Lyngdoh, Lapyntngen Mary Lamin, Nathaniel Levin Suting, and Samuel Kurbah.
Meghalaya athletes showcased their skills in both kumite (sparring) and kata (choreographed techniques), excelling across categories.
Congratulating the medal winners, AMKA lauded the entire team for their spirited display, discipline, and commitment throughout the championship.
