Shillong, Oct 24: A total of 58 youths received appointment letters during the 17th edition of the Rozgar Mela held on Friday at the State Convention Centre, Shillong, as part of the Government of India’s nationwide initiative to create employment opportunities for young people.
The appointment letters were handed over by Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Textiles, Pabitra Margherita. The recruits were selected across various Central Government departments — including 16 candidates in the Department of Posts, 3 in NEEPCO, 2 in the CRPF, 27 in the Railways, and 10 in the State Bank of India (SBI).
In his address, Margherita recalled attending the 15th edition of the Rozgar Mela at the same venue six months ago and commended the continued enthusiasm among the youth of Meghalaya.
“It fills me with immense pride and delight to be here once again. Just six months ago, I attended the 15th edition at this very venue, and it is heartening to see the same optimism in Meghalaya today,” he said.
Highlighting the national impact of the initiative, the minister noted that since the launch of the Rozgar Mela on October 22, 2022, more than one million appointment letters have been distributed across the country, transforming India’s employment landscape.
He further emphasized the government’s strong focus on employment generation and skill development through initiatives such as the Employment-Linked Incentive (ELI) Scheme, upgradation of Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), and new opportunities under the Skill India Mission.
Margherita also pointed out that the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme alone has generated over 11.5 lakh direct and indirect jobs, helping strengthen India’s industrial and economic base.
Encouraging the newly appointed candidates, he remarked,
“Each of you represents the strength and potential of India’s growth story. Every small effort and every role you take up contributes to the nation’s journey of transformation. Congratulations to all the candidates and their proud parents.”
The programme began with video messages from Dr. Jitendra Singh, Minister of State for Science & Technology, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who reiterated the government’s commitment to empowering youth through sustained employment and skill-building initiatives.
Among those present at the event were Sanjiv Ranjan, Director of Posts; K.V.L.N. Murty, Chief Postmaster General, North East Circle; Maj. Gen. Rajesh Kumar Jha, Director (Personnel), NEEPCO; J.N. Tusing, Commandant, CRPF; and other senior officials from various departments.
