Shillong, Nov. 14: The 64th All India Cooperative Week Celebration 2017 under the main theme “Empowering people through Digitalization of Cooperative” and sub theme “ Good Governance and Professionalisation through Cooperative” was inaugurated on Tuesday at Sajer Hall, Nongpoh by Meghalaya Cooperation Minister, Smti Roshan Warjri.
The week long programme is being organized by the Cooperation Department, Government of Meghalaya along with the State Level Cooperative Federation.
Addressing to the gathering, Smti Roshan Warjri said that that unemployment is one of the crisis that the state and the country as a whole has been facing today, therefore it is imperative to promote and strengthen the cooperative movement for creating employment so as to enable the people especially the unemployed youth to make their livelihood more institutionalized.
Smti Warjri appraised the Meghalaya Cooperative Apex Bank for their untiring efforts in extending their services by setting up of many branches at different places particularly at far-flung areas to provide financial services to the farmers and the societies. She also suggested the organizer to showcase all the successful stories produced by the cooperative societies on every cooperative week celebration so as to inspire and encourage others.
Other highlights of the day include release of booklets and brochures on cooperative, handing over of mementos and certificates to State Bank of India Employees’ Consumer Cooperative Store Ltd. and to Smti Bluevilda Sweetly as a Veteran Cooperator. The day also includes mini exhibition which was participated by the cooperative societies.
