SHILLONG, JAN 8: The Congress party has received applications from around 70 aspirants seeking party tickets for the upcoming Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) elections, scheduled to be held later this year.
Speaking to media persons on Thursday, Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Vincent H Pala said the party is fully prepared for the GHADC polls and has been collecting applications from interested candidates over the past month.
“For the GHADC elections, we have already invited applications for the last one month. Around 70 ticket aspirants have come forward, and we have to decide on this issue,” Pala said.
He added that the final decision on candidates will be taken after the official announcement of the election dates.
“Normally, once they announce the election, we announce our candidates. We have done all the preparations also,” Pala stated.
The GHADC elections are expected to be a key political contest in the Garo Hills region, with major parties gearing up to finalise their candidates once the election schedule is notified.
