Nongrem opposes KHADC’s budget session

Shillong Feb 01: KHADC’s leader of opposition Manstudy Nongrem on thursday opposed the decision to convene the Council’s budget session just after the polling day even as he alleged that the reason was because of the Council’s chief fearing that he might lose his chair.

The People’s Democratic Front (PDF)-led executive committee in the KHADC has recently decided to convene the budget session on February 28, which is one day after the Assembly’s polling day.

“I strongly opposed the decision taken by the Syiem-led executive committee because most of the members of the House will not be able to come full prepared for the session given the fact that voting day for the assembly polls is on February 27,” Nongrem told journalists here.

The former KHADC chief, who recently left the Congress and joined the HSPDP, said that the decision of the EC clearly indicated that the present CEM fears that his executive committee might collapsed.

“He (Syiem) is scared. If not, then why not convening the budget session after the announcement of the results of the Assembly polls. Everybody knows that all MDCs are busy with the upcoming elections,” he asked.

Asked, he however said that as per rule, the budget session is supposed to be held on February 12, but due to the upcoming elections, it has been postponed.
