Shillong,June 23: The 99th SOS Day was observed on Saturday with zeal and enthusiasm at SOS Children’s Village in Umiam. Meghalaya Chief Minister, Shri. Conrad K. Sangma attended the celebration as a chief guest along with other officials and the inmates of the village.
Speaking on the occasion the Chief Minister said that there should not be any compromise on hard work and urged the children to carry a positive attitude to life.
“No matter the difficulties and challenges you face in life always keep smilingâ€, the Chief Minister told the gathering.
The Chief Minister also exhorted the organisation and its members to work with selfless dedication towards the all round development and well being of the children and the youth.
The Chief Minister also suggested the organisation to popularise the beautiful handicrafts made by the residents of the village by opening an outlet in the area.
“Without infringing upon the purpose and objective of the organisation some external activities can be initiated, as this area is an important tourist locationâ€, The Chief Minister added.
Reiterating the government’s commitment to the welfare of each and every citizen of the State the Chief Minister urged all stakeholders to work towards achieving greater prosperity and inclusive growth.
The Chief Minister also asked the children to take initiatives to preserve and protect the environment.
