Shillong, Aug 28: The People’s Democratic Front on Tuesday said that it would continue supporting the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance even though its candidate, P.N. Syiem lost the bye election to Ranikor constituency.
Sports Minister and Parliamentary Party leader of the PDF, Banteidor Lyngdoh said that the party lost the bye election to Ranikor because time was too less for the candidate of the party to prepare the ground.
When asked if it was the mistake of the party and P.N. Syiem for contesting the Ranikor bye election, Lyngdoh said that when the leader of the party wanted to contest, the party also supported him especially when he had explained about the location of areas and the closeness between Mawsynram and Ranikor constituency.
“Now that we have lost, we realized that it was a mistake,†Lyngdoh said.
He said that the PDF would meet and analyse the defeat in Ranikor.
On talks that the PDF may pull out of the MDA government and work with the Congress, Lyngdoh said that the PDF was committed to working together with the NPP and other partners for the interest of the state.
Urban Affairs Minister, Hamletson Dohling also said that the PDF supported the MDA which is being led by the NPP under the leadership of Conrad K Sangma as the Chief Minister on issues and the party has given its commitment to work for the state and find solution to issues that affect the state.
“We did not want to be part of the government for the sake of the chair but mainly the issues that we have to address together as partners of the MDA government,†Dohling said.
He also said that he was not aware of the Congress attempt to break the MDA government.
