Shillong, Sept 3: The All Meghalaya SSA School Teachers’ Association (AMSSASTA) has decided to go ahead with its decision to boycott the Teachers’ Day celebration on September 5 as a mark of protest against the state government’s delay in releasing their pending five months salary.
“We appeal to all SSA teachers to support and cooperate with the Association by boycotting the Teachers’ Day celebration in the state,†AMSSASTA president, L Marngar said in a statement issued here on Monday.
His statement came a day after the Meghalaya Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Schools’ Association (MSSASA) had appealed to the teachers to refrain from taking part in the protest citing that the state government was working hard to address the problem.
However, Marngar urged the teachers from different district and blocks to participate in the sit-in-demonstration to be held at the parking lot near Additional Secretariat building on September 5.
Marngar also expressed concern at the decision of the MSSASA to oppose the proposed agitation.
“The MSSASA president Aristotle C Rymbai should understand the problems faced by the teachers by not getting salaries for the past five months. We also remind him that the delay in releasing our salary is not affecting the school managing committees,†he said.
