Shillong, Oct 2: As part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Meghalaya Governor, Tathagata Roy took part in the Awareness and Cleaning drive programme initiated by the joint effort of GORETO Socio-Cultural & Welfare Society, Shillong, Vivekananda Sangha, Oakland, Shillong and Greater Iew Polo Welfare Association, Polo Shillong.
The programme was also attended by Minister for Health and Family Welfare, A. L. Hek, Deputy Commissioner East Khasi Hills, P. S. Dkhar, President, GORETO Socio-Cultural & Welfare Society, Shillong, P.N. Sharma, Commandant of CRPF, 67 BN, CRPF personnel among others.
Speaking on the occasion, the Governor stressed on the importance of keeping homes, public places, localities and surroundings clean. In order to ensure cleanliness, the Governor said it is important to generate awareness to motivate communities to adopt sustainable cleanliness practices every day.
Later the Governor and other dignitaries along with the general public took part in the cleaning drive at Polo Market and its adjoining areas.
