MPCA to facilitate people who want to opt out of Aadhaar

Shillong, Oct 15: The Meghalaya Peoples’ Committee on Aadhaar (MPCA) has decided to facilitate people who want to opt out of Aadhaar enrolment following the recent ruling passed by the Supreme Court.

The decision was taken at a public meeting held at the Khasi National Durbar Hall, Mawkhar here in the city on Monday.

MPCA leader, Rev PBM Basaiawmoit informed that the meeting has decided to begin the opting out from Aadhaar enrolment particularly by those 1564 persons who had written to UIDAI and submitted representation to the Supreme Court to be allowed to opt out/withdraw from Aadhaar enrolment and many others who wish to opt out.

He also referred the Supreme Court’s ruling on bank account, mobile, internet, website connection, school admission, CBSE, NEET, UGC and others.

Persons who want to opt out of Aadhar, can come to the Khasi Students Union (KSU) office at Jaïaw, Shillong on October 29, from 10:00 AM onwards for necessary office formalities to convey to UIDAI the desire to opt out.

Basaiawmoit further informed that the meeting has also resolved to study the possibility for filing and joining in filing Review Petition before a larger bench.

The meeting also expressed its deep appreciation to the Supreme Court lawyers for their staunch stand and committed advocacy before the SC Bench on the issue of Aadhaar.
