Shillong, Oct 29: The state Cabinet has approved a proposal for increasing one-time tax on newly purchased private vehicles by 2 percent.
Speaking to reporters after the cabinet meeting on Monday, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said that vehicles with original costing up to Rs 3 lakh, the one-time-tax has been fixed at 4 percent.
Cars costing Rs 3 lakh and above, the tax was fixed at 6 percent, and cars costing between Rs 15 lakh and Rs 20 lakh, the tax was fixed at 8 percent, while cars costing Rs 20 lakh and above, the tax has been fixed at 10 percent.
According to him, the last enhancement was done in 2011.
Tynsong said that with this hike, the government expected to generate additional revenue around Rs 22-23 crore annually.
