Shillong, Oct 29: The opposition Congress has demanded from the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government to immediately restore the Megha Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS) and questioned the non release of money to single mothers under the social security scheme.
“This ineffective and incompetent government has mess up (the scheme). I condemn it and I urge the chief minister and health minister to do their homework and revive and restore MHIS immediately,†Leader of Opposition Mukul Sangma told reporters on Tuesday.
Stating that the scheme is aimed at providing quality healthcare to all citizens, Sangma however alleged that the state government has suddenly derailed the implementation of this health insurance scheme.
“This again shows that the government is not bothered to take care of the most crucial sector that is the health sector and this will cripple the economy. How many thousands of people are stepping in the hospitals everyday and how many of them falling into debt trap for not having enough funds to take care of the cost requirement for treatment of their loved ones,†he said.
Meanwhile, the opposition party also slammed the government for delaying the release funds under the Chief Minister Social Assistance Scheme to infirms, single mothers and persons with disabilities.
“Even after we have drawn the attention of the government in the House, and even after the government has assured in the House and after collectively passing the supplementary demand to meet this requirement, till now they have not taken care of the needs of these people,†Sangma said.
He also asked whether the government has diverted this money somewhere else after getting the mandate of the Assembly.
“When on one side they are showing that they are concerned for these people by distributing various equipments which is a continuous process, then why don’t they release this money? This shows complete insensitivity towards the most vulnerable group of people in the state,†Sangma alleged.
