Khliehriat/Shillong, Nov 16:Awareness programme held on safety of workers at Goldstone Cement Plant on Friday. The programme was conducted  by  The office of chief inspector  of Boilers and Factories Govt. of Meghalaya  Under the theme of occupational safety and health at workplace.

The programme is a part of awareness initiative by the department for the   safety of the workers who works at  Goldstone Cement Plant, Musiang Lamare Rim,East Jaintia Hills

Shri B.Chyne,Dy. Chief Inspector of Boilers and Factories raise  the chief guest,whike speaking in the occasion said that cooperation of the workers is necessary because if one makes mistake it affects others as a whole  .

Also advised the management to be concern about the harmful disease and prevention is needed as it is an incurable,so primitive measures should be taken. Also advised that the plant management should not enforce anyone who is not an experience in the management representative should therefor consider the  safety of the workers first , so management and workers should cooperate together hand in hand for a smooth running to avoid any accidents.

He also said that the management should send the officers for a training that is in a different fields.

“Yes accident can happen any time but we need to minimize it and prevention should be given”said Mr Chyne

Mr.P.L.Nongbet,Inspector of Boilers and Factories Shillong gave an advised to the management not to expose any person to sound level exceeding the maximum permissible limit because excessive prolonged noise exposure may cause permanenthearing loss,also water should be spray all around to prevent the silicosis,which is a disease caused by the inhalation of dust containing free crystalline silica which is a major component of sand,rocks and miniral ores and this Silicosis is a disabling lungs disease which is very harmful,so Mr Nongbet urged the plant management to maintain properly for the safety of the workers.

Nongbet said that”infact the government expect that there should be zero accident and workers should be more safe and healthy,workers should go for a medical check up always.Further said that, “in the industry the supervisor play a very crucial role and workers too should be very careful and be alert not to fall into any accident,not to move to any unsafe condition,all accident that happen may cause due to unsafe condition or failure of machines,yet accident may caused but still alertness is required for safty.

Shri Satyendra katiyar,Plant Head said that,the plant management infact had already given protection good to the workers like shoes,helmet but one thing is missing is the ear plug to help with noise,he said that the ear plug also will be given soon to the workers.Further said that,the plant is as far as it is for now is running with full alertness and carefull for the safty of all the workers and also always concern about the harmful diseases,he also said that the plant management is happy to accept the advises given by the two officers of Boilers and Factories and believed that the management will run smoothly and safe through alertness and full cooperation as well.

The others who are given speech were Shri P.Rajkumar,Assistant Manager of Safty,Topcem Thangskai,Shri B.Bhagwan Singh,DGM Safty Topcem,the meeting was conducted by Shri Satyabrata Sahoo,Dy.Manager EHS Goldstone.

Also,on this day,the said department,gave the cash award to the winners who won the slogan competition,where Mr Abishek Tiwari,Machenical Engineer Goldstone,got first prize,Mr.Fazal Hoque,Electrical aand Intrumation got second prize and Mr.Subash Das,Welder Machenical got the third prize.
