Shillong Nov 17: The Hill Farmers’ Union (HFU) has asked all its units to select their representatives who will participate in the 1st Meghalaya Farmers Parliament to be held in December this year.

The HFU in collaboration with the State government will hold an Assembly of farmers known as the 1st Meghalaya Farmers Parliament in Shillong.

President of the Union, Commander Shangpliang urged the office bearers from various units to contact the secretary at 8974071503 for further information.

Meanwhile the HFU has also decided to ask the State government to declare 2019 as the ‘year of the farmers’ and the Union had met the Agriculture Minister and raised this demand which has been also a pending demand of former President of the Union, late Walton Lyttan who passed away recently.

The HFU also sought the support of the minister to push forward the plan to launch a mobile application for the farmers.

The HFU also asked the minister who had visited ïewduh recently, to ensure that an order of the Syiem of Hima Mylliem to stop the cutting of actual weight of agricultural produces by few kgs is implemented.
