Meghalaya State Judicial Academy organises seminar on Mental Health

Shillong, Dec 1: The Meghalaya State Judicial Academy on Saturday organized a seminar on ‘Mental Health’ at the Conference Hall of the High Court of Meghalaya, Shillong.

Meghalaya High Court Chief Justice, Mohammad Yaqoob Mir graced the inaugural session as the Chief Guest. The inaugural session was attended by Judge of the High Court of Meghalaya, Justice H. S. Thangkhiew.

Addressing the inaugural session, the Chief Justice said that mental health is of utmost importance for the overall well being of physical health. Besides providing better healthcare and a conducive environment, there is a need to have a healthy psychological approach to bring back a person with mental disorder to the mainstream, he added.

S series of sessions followed after the inaugural session. Resource Persons, Dr. Sandi Syiem, MD, (Psych) Director, San-Ker Hospital, Shillong, Dr. Arvind Nongpyiur, MD, DPM, Assistant Professor & HOD I/c NEIGRIHMS, Shillong and Shishir Tiwari, Assistant Professor, Law Department, NEHU, Shillong deliberated on the topics:“Mental health issues from the perspectives of clinical psychiatry”, “Difference between legal insanity (Forensic Psychiatry) and medical insanity (Clinical Psychiatry)” and“Substantive Law Provisions” respectively.
