Shillong, Jan 17: The Indian Navy divers have captured pictures of a body inside a flooded coal mine at Khloo Ryngksan Meghalaya’s East Jaiñtia Hills district.
The miners, reportedly 15 of them, have been trapped, since December 13 last year.
The body was detected 32 days after the miners were trapped inside the flooded coal mine.
Spokesperson for the rescue operation, R. Susngi on Thursday said that on Wednesday evening in a joint operation between the Indian Navy and the NDRF, and the Indian Navy remotely operated vehicle (ROV) had detected a body 200 feet from the main shaft.
“The meeting is on how best can be the decomposed body is to be retrived or otherwise,” Susngi said.
The NDRF and SDRF personnel, Indian Navy, Odisha Fire Services, Coal India Limited, Kirloskar Brothers Limited and other agencies have been carrying out rescue operations in their bid to locate the trapped miners who were engaged in illegal digging of coal.
