Shillong, Jan 17: The final electoral roll of the state for this year was released on Thursday which saw a total of 18,92,716 voters including 46,091 newly enrolled voters.
The electoral roll was released by Meghalaya Chief Electoral Officer, F.R Kharkongor at a state level function here in the presence of East Khasi Hills deputy commissioner, MW Nongbri, Additional CEO, R P Marak and representatives of various political parties.
There are 9,56, 137 female and 9,36,579 make voters.
Speaking at the function, Kharkongor informed that in the final electoral roll, 18,92,716 electorates were enrolled for the upcoming 2019 Parliamentary elections.
He said that upgradation of the electoral roll would continue to ensure that no prospective voter is left out.
He also said that female enrollment and participation is also very high in the State.
The CEO also informed that taking into account the lackadaisical approach of the electorates when it comes to Parliamentary elections, new and innovative measures would be introduced to encourage the people to go out and vote in large numbers.
The Voter Verification & Information Programme (VVIP) 1950 that would be launched on National Voters Day on January 25 would enable the electorates to verify and check their names in polling stations and other details through mobile phones.
Earlier, the CEO released the Electoral Rolls and handed them over to representatives of different political parties.
