Shillong, Jan 18: Leader of Opposition, Dr Mukul Sangma on Friday ridiculed at the visit of a delegation of the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government to New Delhi in opposing the Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2016 and termed it a “tamasha” and “wastage of public money,” while recalling that it is the same MDA government led by the National People’s Party (NPP) that had mooted an idea to issue work permit for Bangladeshi nationals.

On Friday, a delegation of the MDA government led by Chief Minister, Conrad K. Sangma called on Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and opposed the move to implement the Citizenship Amendment Bill, which seeks to grant citizenship to immigrants from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh.

“What is this tamasha? We all know what was happening, and why have they mooted an idea well in advance to the Centre to issue work permit for Bangladeshis,” Sangma reacted on Friday.

“This whole thing which unfolds ever since the formation of the BJP-led NDA government in 2014 indicates that they are working on how to ultimately implement agendas set by the RSS. It is the RSS that controls the whole government. What is this tamasha (going to New Delhi)? It is a waste of money from the state’s exchequer,” Sangma lambasted.

The Leader of Opposition also slammed the Centre for pushing its agenda to implement the citizenship bill.

“This goes against the sentiments of the people of the state and the whole North Eastern region,” Sangma said.
