Shillong Jan 24: The Indian Navy in collaboration with the NDRF on Thursday retrieved the body of a miner detected by the ROV inside a coal mine in East Jaiñtia Hills district.
Spokesperson for the rescue operation, R. Susngi said that the Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) detected the body from the main shaft on January 16 and it was taken out at 3pm,
Inquest was conducted by a magistrate in presence of Deputy Commissioner and Dr Mitul Sangma from the office of the DMHO East Khasi Hills District conducted the post mortem.
The body was taken to Khliehriat community health centre and will be kept in a cold storage to enable the relatives to come and identify the body.
Susngi said that the Odisha fire service operated their pump for 6.5 hours from 10.40am to 5pm and the total discharged of water was 5,85,000 litres.
The CIL pump out the water from two old shafts for 27.5 hours and the total discharged was 31,18,500 litres.
The KSB operated their pump from 7 pm of Wednesday till 5pm Thursday for 14.5 hours. The total discharge of water was approximately 27,71,000 litres.
