Shillong Mar 9: The Meghalaya government has finalized a land of the transport department at Umling in Ri-Bhoi district for the setting up of entry/exit point to check influx.
The site was inspected by Chief Minister, Conrad K. Sangma, Transport minister, Sniawbhalang Dhar, Urban Affairs minister, Hamletson Dohling in the presence of officers from various departments.
The Chief Minister said that the government has been looking for land in the past months for the project.
“We tried looking at land for purchase, and in the process, we could identify the land that belonged to the transport department. With this, the government could save a lot of money instead of buying land and develop it,†he said.
According to the Chief Minister, work will start in a month and in the entry point, a facilitation centre will be there.
“We have finalized the location and work will start within a month. We have already given a green signal to the PWD to design the project. Work will start soon and it should complete at the earliest,†Conrad said.
Setting up of entry/exit points under the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act, 2016 demanded by some pressure groups are part of the comprehensive mechanisms to check influx into the state.
