Memorial service for Sri Lanka terror attacks held in Meghalaya

Shillong, April 24: A holy mass and memorial service was held in Meghalaya on Wednesday for victims and survivors of the Easter Sunday terrorist attacks in Sri Lanka that killed over 350 people.

Several hundred Catholic faithful and many from other faiths joined the Holy Mass, celebrated by the Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Shillong, Rev Fr John Madur, at the Cathedral Church of Mary Help of Christians at Laitumkhrah, Shillong.

“In such tragedies there are those who sought to know where God was. His reply was that God was with those who were kneeling in prayer and in the tears that were shed by the countless people,” Madur said.

He said Christians will forever repose their faith in God and that no intimidation or death will detract them from their path. “These deaths and injuries caused will instead deepen and strengthen our faith in God,” Madur declared.

The Catholic Association of the Shillong Archdiocese had announced that as a mark of expressing solidarity, all Churches in the Shillong Archdiocese will offer Holy Masses for the departed souls and those injured in the Sri Lanka bomb blasts for one week
