Shillong, May 07: The United Democratic Alliance (UDA)-led Executive Committee under the leadership of the Chief Executive Member (CEM), Teiñwell Dkhar faced no more threat with members of the KHADC supporting the Alliance pledged to again extend support to him, after they resolved all differences that have cropped up recently.

They even assured that the UDA-led EC under the leadership of the present CEM will last for full five years.

This decision was taken by MDCs of the ruling UDA during the meeting held at the Chief Minister’s residence here on Tuesday evening.

One of the main reasons that caused differences among the ruling MDCs was the allocation of Rs 50 lakh to each MDC from the Rs 52 crore Special Assistance Grant given by the Centre to the KHADC.

Some members wanted that more fund should be allocated to the MDCs to be able to take up developmental activities in their respective constituencies while the opposition Congress demanded that each member should be given Rs 1.5 crore.

Interestingly, the MDCs said that they did not discuss anything about the issue during the UDA meeting.

The six MDCs in a joint letter submitted to the CEM on April 30 said that they have decided to withdraw support from the UDA since grievances and suggestions have not been responded, and many issues have been decided without any collective responsibilities among the UDA members which affect “our people and bring down our image as elected representatives.”

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, the CEM, Teiñwell Dkhar said that all the six MDCs who had submitted their resignation letters have withdrawn and all the members decided to work together and support the EC.

“The differences within the UDA are internal matter and all grievances aired by the members were discussed during the meeting and all the differences have been resolved. We hope that the UDA-led EC will last till the end of the term,” the CEM said.

Earlier six MDCs had withdrawn support from the UDA which include, three Executive Members, Victor Rani, Mitchel Wankhar and Macdalyn S. Mawlong, besides Lambor Malngiang, Gigur Myrthong, and Latiplang Kharkongor.

Malngiang said that during the meeting, it was also decided that the Coordination Committee headed by the CEM should be held to discuss grievances of the MDCs who are part of the UDA.

The UDA has 19 MDCs in the 29-member KHADC, and the opposition Congress has 10 members.

Prior to the UDA meeting, MDCs who are part of the People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) held a meeting in the chamber of Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, in the presence of Chief Minister, Conrad K. Sangma, Home Minister, James K. Sangma and other NPP legislators where a decision was taken that all MDCs of the PDA should continue working together in UDA under the leadership of the present CEM.
