Shillong, May 9: The Joint Action Committee of Mawlai (JACM) has demanded from the Food Corporation of India (FCI) authority to immediately terminate its contract with the Saikia Company, if it failed to hand over truck drivers who killed Meghalaya Home Guard, Dismarlin Lyngdoh Lyngkhoi to police within one month.

The demand was made during a protest march against the brutal murder of Lyngkhoi organised by the JACM in Mawlai on Thursday.

Hundreds of people including students participated in the protest march, which started from Mawlai petrol pump to Mawlai Mawroh playground as a mark of solidarity with family members of late Lyngkhoi.

Mawlai MDC, Teiborlang Pathaw, who is also an Executive Member of the KHADC took part in the protest rally.

A memorandum was submitted by the JACM to the general manager of the FCI Dev Anand.

Lyngdoh, who worked as home guard of the FCI godown at Mawsami village in Ri Bhoi district, succumbed to injuries after he was brutally assaulted by truck drivers on April 24 in the premises of FCI godown.

Speaking to reporters, chairman of the JACM, Donboklang Kharlyngdoh said, “We have issued a one month deadline to the FCI to immediately cancel the contract with the Saikia Company, if it failed to handover the absconding culprits to the police.”

He said the FCI, should also issue stern direction to this company to comply and extend full cooperation till these criminals, are arrested and punished as per law.

Kharlyngdoh informed that the JACM also asked the FCI authority to immediately suspend one Mr Thapa, who was also on duty when the ill-fated incident happened, for not helping his own colleague till he succumbed to his injuries and died the very next day.

“Suspension is also called for, the warehouse in-charge of FCI, 10th Mile, Ri Bhoi District, whose careless and irresponsible behavior of not making any sensible decision and willingness to help Lyngkhoi,” he said.

Lyngkhoi left behind his wife and five children.

“The family had unfortunately lost not only a loving husband and devoted father, but also the sole breadwinner,” Kharlyngdoh said.

Kharlyngdoh informed that the JACM had earlier met the commandant of the Civil Defence and Home Guard with a request to give job to one of the family members. According to him, the commandant had assured the delegation to take up the matter.
