Shillong, May 29: Meghalaya Assembly Speaker Donkupar Roy who is also the president of the United Democratic Party (UDP) on Wednesday said that there were no blacksheep in the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government while defending the defeat of “common candidate†Jemino Mawthoh in the recent Lok Sabha elections from Shillong.
Sponsored by the UDP from Shillong constituency, Jemino was defeated by sitting Congress MP, Vincent H. Pala by a margin of 152,433 votes.
“We have only white sheep, we do not have black sheep. Everyone in the group (MDA) tried our best, but we failed to win,†he said.
He also admitted that the propaganda and fear created among the people against the BJP had worked for the Congress.
Roy also said that regional parties, including UDP and NPP and others, would become stronger in 2023.
