Shillong, Aug 8: Two persons were killed and another was injured after the bike they were riding dashed against a guard wall on Mawlai by-pass on Thursday.

The incident took place at around 5 am when the bike (pulsar) bearing registration no ML 05 J 8110 was proceeding from Mawïong towards Mawlai Mawtawar via the bypass road.

Police said that the bike went and dashed the right side of the bridge’s guard wall.

The bike was ridden by Badondor Shabong (21) of Mawlai Nonglum along with two pillion riders – Darihun L. Nongpiur (26) of Mawlai Mawroh, and Lebarius Dkhar (19) of Rangdkhew, Mawkyrwat.

Badondor and Darihun succumbed to injuries while the other pillion rider Lebarius was shifted to Shillong Civil Hospital for treatment.

The newly constructed Mawlai bypass that starts from Mawlai Mawïong on the Shillong-Guwahati highway, connects with Mawlai Mawkynroh.

The road is yet to be opened and vehicles have not been allowed to ply on this road.
