ANTF of East Khasi Hills makes two drugs busts

Shillong Aug 28. In a dusk to dawn operation, two drugs busts were made by the ANTF of East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police.

Based on the source of information, around 5 pm on Tuesday, one Maruti DZire car bearing registration number ML 05J 5886 suspected to be carrying drugs was roaming around Mawlai after the Naka was put in place and the car was intercepted by a team of Mawlai P.S and the ANTF.

On questioning, one accused Richard Wahlang produced the drugs which were kept under the seat on which he was sitting. This entire episode happened in front of two respectable witness of the locality. The co-accused, John Fiscal Lyngkhoi was driving the vehicle and has been partner-in-crime of Richard Wahlang. It is to be noted that both the accused are history sheeters and are facing trial in six different cases including murder/kidnapping/Arms Act.

 

A total of 10 soap boxes containing contraband weighing 109.97 gms was seized from the joint possession of both the accused. The case has been registered under section 21(b) NDPS Act at Mawlai P.S.

The ANTF team, again on receiving information around 1 am that one truck bearing the registration number NL 01 K 7498 has been detected by local residents of Mawlyngngad village in suspicious circumstances, who had already informed the Sohryngkham Outpost and in turn informed S.P. (City), Shillong who then rushed to Sohryngkham.

During questioning, the driver of the truck disclosed that one hidden compartment in the truck in which ganja was stashed. The search and seizure of ganja weighing whopping approximately 850 kgs was done as per procedures established under NDPS Act.

 

Both the accused, driver and helper are being produced before Magistrate and further investigation is on to nab other accused involved. It appears to be a big racket as the hidden compartment is welded into the body of truck and it would require only an expert eye to detect.

The Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills, C laudia A Lyngwa thanked the local residents, VDPs and members of NGOs such as KSU and FKJGP for helping the police.
