Plastic ban in ïewduh: Paul warns stern action against violators

Shillong, Sept 2: KHADC Executive Member in-charge Trade, Paul Lyngdoh said that stern action would be taken against violators of the decision to ban the use of plastic in ïewduh.

Lyngdoh was addressing at a public meeting to announce the implementation of the decision taken by the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) to declare ïewduh as a ‘No plastic zone’ held at Motphran on Monday.

“From now onwards, both traders and market goers cannot use plastics at ïewduh. Violators will have to pay a fine of Rs 1 lakh and also to the extent of five years imprisonment,” he said.

The EM however said the main objective of the decision is to discourage the use of plastics by people. He also highlighted the ill effects of plastics on the environment.

Lyngdoh further informed that the KHADC has also set up a team of six officials which include three officers from the KHADC while the other three from the Hima Mylliem to ensure effective implementation of the decision.
