Shillong Sept 27: The BJP Meghalaya unit has decided to contest the bye election to Shella Assembly slated for October 21 and announced Joshua Warjri as its candidate.
BJP legislator, Sanbor Shullai announced the name of Warjri as the candidate at the BJP office on Friday evening.
Shullai expressed confidence that the Shella seat will go to the BJP this time.
“We will win because the people of Shella have understood that if they vote for our candidate, they vote for our Prime Minister Narendra Modi and development,†Shullai said.
Shullai urged party workers to work hard to ensure the victory of Warjri.
BJP state president, Shibun Lyngdoh said that in the last elections to Shillong Lok Sabha constituency, the BJP got 4,770 votes from Shella constituency.
“Now we have enrolled around 4,500 members in Shella constituency. Therefore we have no doubt that our candidate will win from Shella,†Lyngdoh said.
Warjri said that Shella constituency is still lacking development.
“BJP is the stem which leads the government at the Centre, and the other parties in the state like the NPP, UDP and other parties are only trunks. All these years, the constituency has been wearing torn clothes (pathetic roads) and there was no development, but if the BJP wins this bye election, the constituency will get new clothes,†Warjri said.
Warjri also urged all party workers to work hard to ensure victory of the party.
