Shillong Sept 30: Congress candidate for the bye election to Shella constituency, Batyngshaiñ Ryngnga said that he along with the party would pursue the demand for creation of new district while assuring that if elected, his focus would be road connectivity, improvement of trade in the border especially export of limestone besides education.
Ryngnga who unsuccessfully contested the Assembly polls from Shella in 2018 as well as the elections to KHADC in 2019 said that he was confident of winning in this bye election because people have wanted to see change in the constituency

The bye election to Shella has to be held after the demise of veteran MLA, Dr Donkupar Roy, who had represented the constituency for more than 30 years since 1988.

“In the last MDC elections, the contest was not with the present MDC of Shella, Teiñwell Dkhar, but it was with Dr Donkupar who had really worked hard. I lost by around 200 votes, and my defeat was only from the border areas. We hope this time we will win because people wanted to see a change in the constituency,” Ryngnga said after submitting his nomination papers.

He said that he would continue to work to complete the yet to be accomplished works left by late Dr Donkupar.

Stating that Shella had not seen much development in the past years but he expressed his gratitude to late Dr Donkupar who had tried his best to initiate development in the constituency.

“Road is the main problem in Shella constituency. I will work to ensure that we have good roads, and all villages should be connected by road, besides uplifting education in the constituency, and improve trade in the border especially export of limestone,” Ryngnga said.

On the demand for creation of new district, the Congress candidate said that he and his Congress party wanted a new district to be created.

“Our former MDC from Sohra, Donevan Wanlang had also pursued this demand and attended a meeting at Sohra on this issue. We will continue to demand for creation of new district, and as a party we also have our Leader of Opposition, Dr Mukul Sangma who I am sure, will raise this demand to create new district in our area,” Ryngnga added.
