Shillong, Oct 21: The state government will soon constitute a consultative committee to work out a model on the road map for implementation of the new scientific coal mining in the state.

This was informed by the chief minister Conrad K Sangma to a 30-member delegation of the Meghalaya State Coordination Committee of the Coal Owners, Miners, Exporters, Transporters and Dealers Forum (MSCCCOETDF) who met him recently at his official residence.

Chairman of the Forum Sonny L Khyriem in a statement issued here on Monday informed that the sole objective to meet the chief minister was purely on the coal mining issues.

After the in-depth deliberations, the chief minister assured to look into the proability of conducting workshops in all the district headquaters so as to create awareness and educate the coal miners with regard to the new scientific coal mining process and to share views/opinions on the fresh mode of coal mining, he said.

Khyriem further informed that the chief minister also agreed to constitute a Consultative Committee in order to work out a model on the new coal mining road-map, which will be suitable and environmental friendly and to co-exist for everyone and which will also be in consonance with the MMDR Act.

According to him, the committee will consist of officials from both central and state governments, mining consultants and stakeholders from the coal mining sector.
