Shella MLA takes oath as member of tenth Meghalaya Assembly

Shilong, Oct 25: Newly elected MLA of Shella, Balajied Synrem, the son of former chief minister, Donkupar Roy who retained the Shella Assembly seat by winning with a huge margin took oath as member of the tenth Meghalaya Assembly here on Friday.

Synrem,  was administered the oath of office by Assembly Speaker, Metbah Lyngdoh  at the Assembly Secretariat administrative block in the presences of Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, family members UDP  MLAs,Assembly officials and supporters .

Synrem won the bye election to Shella Constiuency held on October 21, and votes were counted at Sohra on Thursday.

Donkupar passed away on July 28, which caused the bye election in Shella Constiuency. He was also the Speaker of the 10th Assembly, and had held the post of former chief minister and leader of Opposition in Assembly.
The Shella seat was held by his father, late Donkupar Roy for 31 years, since 1988.

Donkupar was the president of the UDP.

Late Donkupar Roy’s cumulative winning margin over the last seven terms in the Assembly polls from 1988 to 2018 was only 3,857.

Whereas his son current margin just in one election is 6221, more than the cumulative winning margin of  his father.
