KHADC panel endorses Hima Mylliem’s order against weight deduction of agricultural produces

Shillong, Oct 28: The KHADC’s Committee on Farmers Issue has decided to endorse an order passed by the Syiem of Hima Mylliem against weight deduction of agricultural produces sold by farmers at ïewduh.

This decision was taken during a joint meeting of the KHADC’s Committee on Farmers Issue on Monday which was chaired by Deputy Chief Executive Member (Dy CEM), Pynïaid Sing Syiem.

Syiem is the chairman of the Committee on Farmers Issue, and the meeting was attended by Executive Member in-charge Market, Jambor War, Executive Member, Titosstarwell Chyne who is also the member of the committee, the Syiem of Hima Mylliem, Ainam Syiem, representatives of the Hill Farmers’ Union (HFU), farmers, traders, and middlemen.

During the meeting, problems faced by farmers at ïewduh were raised by representatives of the HFU and after threadbare discussion and arguments on various points, traders also raised the problems they face at ïewduh.

After hearing all the grievances and suggestions from the farmers especially on weight deduction of agricultural produces and other problems, the Committee decided that an order passed by the Syiem of Hima Mylliem against weight deduction of agricultural produces brought to ïewduh.

The committee made it clear that the office of the Hima Mylliem should take stern action against violators of the order.

When the meeting was in progress, hundreds of farmers assembled in the premises of the KHADC waiting for the outcome of the meeting.

Later, HFU the president, Commander Shangpliang announced the outcome of the meeting to the farmers and told them the Union would continue to follow up the issue related to weight deduction of goods and this problem should end once and for all.

Shangpliang also reminded the state government that the year 2020 should be declared as the year of the farmers.
