Shillong, Dec 18: Former MLA of Nongkrem constituency, Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit has asked the state government to explain the reasons that the Inner Line Permit (ILP) cannot be implemented just by issuing a notification.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Basaiawmoit said that he was happy to see that the chief minister Conrad K Sangma and deputy chief minister, Prestone Tynsong have admitted that the government can implement ILP in Meghalaya through issuing of a notification.

He quoted Tynsong of saying, “You need to understand that the latest notification on ILP came out from the government of India on December 11. Prior to this, it is correct that we may by notification implement the ILP but now since the latest notification has just come out on December 11, so we are bound to go back to the Central government for implementation of ILP.”

In view of this, the former legislator said he wanted to know since when the state government can no longer implement the ILP by issuing a notification.

“What is the reason that the state government cannot issue this notification to implement ILP in the state?” Basaiawmoit asked.

He said that he still has many questions to raise on this issue.
