Shillong, Mar 11: The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has urged the Governor Tathagata Roy to convene a special session of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) in order to prove majority in the House.
The delegation of UDA was led by its newly elected chairman Tistosstarwell Chyne during the meeting held at Raj Bhavan here on Wednesday.
The UDA wants to stake claim to form the new executive committee following the imposition of the administrator’s rule in the KHADC for the past one month.
The state government on February 7, decided to bring the KHADC under administrator’s rule due to alleged political instability
After the meeting, Chyne told reporters that the delegation has apprised the governor that the UDA has the number to stake claim to form the executive committee in the Council.
“We have requested the governor to convene the special session of the KHADC at the earliest and if possible within this month,†he said.
Asked, the new chairman of the UDA said that the governor has assured the delegation that he would take necessary steps on the matter based on the recommendation of the state government.
When pointed that a petition filed by the former KHADC chief Latiplang Kharkongor against the government’s decision to impose administrator’s rule in the Council is still pending before the High Court, Chyne however said that the case has no connection with the formation of the new EC.
He also said that the imposition of the administrator’s rule in the KHADC was done as per rule and as per the constitution.
The meeting of the UDA held yesterday has also unanimously decided to nominate Chyne for election to the CEM’s post.
