Meghalaya’s first COVID-19 victim laid to rest under strict Health Ministry guidelines

Shillong, Apr 16 : The burial of the 69-year-old senior doctor  who succumbed to COVID-19 was carried out here on Thursday based on the guidelines issued by the Union Ministry of Health .

The mortal remains of Dr.John L Sailo Ryntathiang was finally laid to rest at the Riatsamthiah Prebyterian Church cemetary at Lawmali on April 16.

It may be mentioned that several religious groups and communities have come forward to offer to conduct the last rites after residents of Jhalupara and Nongpoh refused to allow the government to take the body to the electric crematorium in Jhalupara and later bury the ashes in Nongpoh respectively.

The senior doctor was tested positive for coronavirus on April 13, passed away on April 15 in the morning.
